HUMAN’s investment in our planet’s future

On 27 March, HUMAN Gesellschaft für Biochemica und Diagnostica mbH, together with 29 other local businesses, was awarded the “Wiesbadener ECOPROFIT Company 2011/2012” for its sustained commitment to the protection of our environment.

For the past 11 years, the Hessian state capital, Wiesbaden, has promoted the cause of environmental protection in Hesse with the cooperative project ECOPROFIT. With the participation of local businesses, the project has made an important contribution to the preservation of our climate and the environment.
ECOPROFIT’s goal is to conserve natural resources in everyday business and in the medium term to encourage the implementation of environmentally sustainable technologies. HUMAN has completed an intensive training program covering energy- and environmental management targeting potential hidden energy savings, cost reduction and, at the same time, a reduction in the burden on the environment.
The most significant result of the project at HUMAN has been the renovation of the lighting system. The cycle time of the corridor lighting could be reduced significantly through the use of sound- and motion detectors, resulting in considerable energy savings.


 
With these and other measures, the companies participating in ECOPROFIT have in the past year managed to achieve total savings of approx. 1 million euros, electricity equivalent to the use of nearly 400 four-person households, 43,000 liters of fossil fuels, 4 million liters of water and more than 28,000 kilograms of residual waste. Climate-damaging CO2 emissions could be reduced by more than 12,000 tons. This impressive result serves to motivate HUMAN’s management and employees to continue their efforts to the burden on our environment.
